Purpose

Different Systems is an architecture and design practice formed by professional practice of Space Architecture.

The name Different Systems reflects our concurrent look outwards to the Solar System and inwards to Earth's life-giving systems. Our unique value proposition is in applying architectural thinking across dissimilar contexts and scales.

Office

Different Systems is based in Seattle and shares its office, knowledge, and resources with mondae, a full-service architecture & interiors studio specializing in residential work. We leverage one another’s expertise to cover projects within and outside the norms for a wide spectrum of client visions and budgets.

Founder

Jeffrey Montes, M.Arch has built an influential portfolio of pioneering, award-winning projects for both Earth and Space.

As Senior Space Architect at Blue Origin, he led the team responsible for the design of spacecraft and for how those environments shape the astronaut experience. His work spans space stations, crew transport, lunar and Martian habitats, autonomous construction, spaceports, rovers, and piloting interfaces. Terrestrially, Jeffrey has worked on bespoke projects of all scales as both design architect and consulting specialist including 3D-printed sculptures, new and renovated homes and interiors, and detailed building envelope design, and other concepts.

He founded Different Systems in 2025 to extend his professional practice of Space architecture to Earth.
